В диссертации исследуется школьная юмористическая литература XVII – XVIII вв. как явление украинского низового барокко. Путем комплексного изучения поэтической и риторической теории и литературной практики украинского барокко дается теоретическое обоснование и историко-литературное содержание понятия "украинское низовое барокко", исследуются жанрово-стилевые особенности нижнего уровня литературы, определяются его координаты в художественной системе барокко и в национальном литературном процессе.
Методологической основой диссертации является творческое сочетание структуралистического, сравнительно-исторического, психологического методов, естетико-функциональных подходов и герменевтики текста.

The thesis researches the scholars' humour of the XVII-XVIIIth centuries as a phenomenon of Ukrainian low baroque. The paper attempts at creating a theoretical basis for historical and literary studies of the style of Ukrainian low baroque and characterizing it from different points of view in terms and notions of modern literary studies. Creative combination of structural, comparative, historical and psychological methods, aesthetic and functional approaches and text hermeneutics constitutes a methodological basis of the thesis.
In search of giving a definition and a theoretical substantiation to the low baroque style particularly fruitful appears to be the three styles theory. On the grounds of the study of this theory of styles in the diachronic and synchronic aspects a widely-spread stereotype of the literary criticism about its exclusively classicist origin is refuted and the possibility of using it for characterizing the low level of the then literature is proved. By means of analysis and synthesis of the older and modern theories of vertical structuring of literature there in the thesis the meaning of the notion "low stylistic level of literature" is revealed and treated as a complex of literary works serving the lower strata of the social hierarchy and characterized by the common nature of the stylistic features which are called here as low style.
The theoretical stylistic model formed on the basis of the books on poetics and rhethorics of the XVII-XVIIIth centuries finds its confirmation in the then literary practice. On the one hand, Ukrainian low baroque penetrates deeply into the folk culture, on the other one it is closely connected with baroque book culture. On the level of baroque poetics folk culture legalized as one of the sources of baroque intertextuality - along with the ancient and Christian traditions. That is why attention is paid in the paper not so much to specific textual borrowings from folklore but more to the way they are combined with other components and the character of their modifications in the artistic system of low baroque.
Stylistic features of the works of Ukrainian low baroque testify to its generic affinity and natural unity with the literature of other stylistic levels. The unity of lofty and low stylistic levels manifests itself in the common nature of world perception, in the similarity of the system of themes and images and in the affinity of poetics. However, as a result of its being oriented towards mass culture the literature of low genres in a way transforms baroque images of the world and a human being, time and space, readers' tastes, view upon literature and its functions as well as poetics. With this in view the paper analyses the modifications of the crucial features of baroque aesthetics on the low level of literature (like antitheticity, interpretational principle of creation, sensitivity, content specificity) as well as modifications of the major laws and principles of baroque poetics (ars system, the type of relations between the author and reader/listener, the status of the character).
Genre system of the Ukrainian low baroque has been preserved only partially due to the mainly oral of existence of works. Functional and applied character of some genres contributed to their preservation. A characteristic feature of the genre system of low baroque is the existence of paired genres and combination of the genre versions of different styles within one work on the basis of their plot and composition al parallelism. A significant part of low genres can to some extent be considered a mirror reflection of the high baroque genres, their symmetry provides for the completeness, variability of artistic portrayal and complex shared impact upon the recipient. The system of low baroque genres functions according to the laws of baroque generics revealing the same change of genre forms, their capability to make up various combinations and situational variants, thematic and functional synonymy and interchange ability.
Along with that low genres supplement the baroque picture of the world, enrich poetics, genre and thematic variety of style, catalyze general stylistic process of secularization, democratization of literature and a qualitatively new approach to the literary creative work itself. On the grounds of this fact one can speak of the inner dynamics within the frame of the baroque thinking paradigm and artistic system which prepares the basis for the transition of the literature to the next stage of its development.
Therefore, complex analysis of genre and stylistic features of the Ukrainian low baroque proves it to be a significant part of the literary process which makes transformations, adjusts a rich baroque heritage to the new aesthetic needs, thus providing for the continuity of spiritual history under the conditions of the change of the language code.
