The dissertation is one of the first monographic studies of the artistic treatment of ethnical-psychological types of a Ukrainian in I.S. Nechuj-Levyts’kyj’s prose fiction of the 1860-s – 1880-s. The writer’s artistic-aesthetic and social-political views are under the consideration in the thesis. The acquired result were applied to the analysis of the peculiarities of ethnic-psychological types of characters of Ukrainians as bearers of national mentality. The figure of author as an integrated creator of protagonists’ characters, of some definite psychology, of the worldview typical of the epoch, of the national and social surroundings is examined in this context.
