The thesis considers phraseology to be a source of the linguistic information on a country and its life, a linguistic means of percepting the picture of the world, and the problem of phraseological unit inner form as a means of reflecting the environment.

With the works by such scientists as O.O.Potebnya, V.V.Vinogradov, V.M.Rusanivskiy on the inner form of the word taken into account, an attempt is made to determine the notion of the phraseological unit inner form and to show how the phraseology represents the picture of the world (i.e. Ukrainian reality). Vast phraseological material has been studied and commented. In order to determine the phraseological unit inner form correctly, components of the units have been subjected to etymological analysis, and the genetic roots of some phraseological components have sought.

Research of concrete material enabled new observations on the state of phraseological unit inner form: the units change under the influence of lingual and extra-lingual phenomena.
