studied 151 cases of middle age and aged patients with SSCI who were treated in neurosurgical department of Simferopol Republican clinical hospital named after N.A.Semashko from 1990 to 1999 and in neurosurgical department of Kiev regional clinical hospital from 1995 to 1999.
We studied investigated particular features of clinical features of SSCI mechanisms, clinical presentation, diagnostics and treatment as well as prognostic criteria for patients of age 45 to 89 years old. Among all patients 96 had middle age (45-59 years old) and the rest were aged patients (60-89 years old). We performed comparative analysis depending on the cause mechanisms and level of injury, severity of neurological impairment, diagnostical algorythms, management and immediate prognostic criteria.
It was established that aged patients comprise particular group whose disease course usually accompanied with comorbidity and high rate of combine injury which leads to decrease of adaptive functions of organism and results in developing of complications in the acute period of the trauma.
The main results of the study were applied in the neurosurgical practice.
